Milhouse Surprise
...

Milhouse Surprise is the tried and true four-piece rock band consisting of vocals, guitars, bass and percussion.  What's the story behind the band?  Well........

Milhouse Surprise got its start in Manhattan, Kansas in June of '94 -- kind of.  Ben Stamey (percussion) and Dustin Dreiling (bass) were playing in a band with some friends and asked Jason Miles (lead vocals, guitars) to sing in a battle of the bands contest they were entering.  This group (called Rats Ass) practiced for a beer-soaked weekend and then played at the contest -- and actually won the damn thing -- it was their 1st ever performance together.  The guys took this as a sign that maybe they should keep playing together and actually start practicing.

The band started playing small bars and parties around Manhattan and the area and started working on thier own music, learning how to write together without killing each other -- most of the time. During this period, the group changed its name to Milhouse Surprise.  Where did the name come from?  Legend has it that it was a result of 2 all-nighters, lots of beer, shots of Jaggermeister, some moldy pizza (extra 'shrooms), 15 episodes of the Simpsons and a biography of Richard Nixon.... see if you can figure it out -- the band swears they aren't even sure!

Anyway, the guys decided to give the band a shot.  Ben and Dustin both left school (along with a former guitar player) and moved into the typical 2-room "band dive" with Jason in Wichita, Kansas.  They started learning their craft by playing really small, dark (and often deserted) bars and working to get their name known.  After a few months, their original guitar player decided to head back to school and they brought Andy Wasson (lead guitar, vocals) onboard..... and started over (again).

Within the year, Milhouse Surprise had become one of the top bands in Kansas and released their first E.P. "Demonstrative" in 1996 to positive reviews.

February of 1997 brought another change when the band changed it base of operations and moved to Tampa, Florida.  (If you've spent even 1 winter in Kansas, you won't ask why...)  The long awaited debut cd "It's Not the Fall that Kills You" was released in 1998 to rave reviews.  The band was in demand, gaining more and more fans, and then......

Early in 1999 the group announced they were going on sabbatical without much explination.... as of the date of this publication their fans are still waiting for their return.  Here's to hoping....
